Will You Make a Difference? The Role of Students in Environmental Research Innovation
Umeå University was the scene of a scientific breakthrough in regards to whether ionic liquids as solvents. The university recently conducted an experiment that is said to give insight into the “enzymatic refinement of cellulose to precious molecules and industrial products.” This has the potential to be a huge breakthrough and scientist agrees that it could be used in producing ethanol fuel and reduce dangerous emission from oil-based gasoline.
The students at the university that were involved in this breakthrough play a major role in the work. This shows that even college students can produce scientific results and breakthroughs. As these students were pursuing their master’s degrees they also served as environmental researchers. Current students all over the world should take this example as evidence that even college students can make a major difference in the world.
The truth is that universities constantly play a major role in the advancement of science and have for hundreds of years. Most college students do not realize this but our future very well depend on the practice continuing. Environmental research is a vital part of the sustainability of the planet but there are a limited number of environmental scientists performing research today. Students of all ages should be encouraged to fill the gap.
If changing the world and keeping it around for future generations, you should consider becoming an environmental researcher as the demand will only continue to grow. You do not have to wait to make your mark as universities can provide you a vehicle to do so while earning an education.
